Bihar anticipates more migrating pelicans after 70,000 were counted previous winter

Given that 70,000 migrant pelicans entered the state last winter, Bihar is anticipating a large influx of migratory winter birds this season.

According to the forest and wildlife agency, the study was carried out in 76 wetlands spread out across 26 different state districts.

The new winter season, which runs from now through March, is expected to bring more migratory birds to the wetlands of Bihar from Siberia and eastern European nations.

The environment, forest, and climate change minister Tej Pratap Yadav announced the results on Monday, saying, “We performed the survey from January 30 to February 12 in the 76 wetlands of Bihar, and 69,935 migrating pelicans were recorded in the state. The counting required 200 officials. This year, 24,000 migrating birds had been seen to arrive, according to Yadav.

More wetlands are being created in Bihar, and this session, more migrating pelicans are anticipated to visit, according to Yadav.
The brown breasted flycatcher, scaly thrush, Asian brown flycatcher, large tailed nightjar, Besra, grey headed lapwing, mountain harrier, Shishing bushloktikel leaf warbler, domicile crane, spotted crane, and great bitners are among the migratory birds that have been spotted in these wetlands, according to officials. In addition, uncommon birds with features like a white tail, a button kwal, and yellow legs may be found here.

These wild pelicans have greater flight abilities than other migratory birds. Due to the extreme weather in Siberia, Eastern Europe, and Mongolia, they arrive here at the start of winter and remain until March every year.

Additionally, we are adding additional wild species to Patna Zoo, also known as Sanjay Gandhi Zoological Park. We want to elevate Patna Zoo to national acclaim, he said.
