Tennessee police file a fraudulent social media post against News18 Bihar
A charge has been filed against News18 Bihar by the Central Crime Branch (CCB), Chennai, for allegedly putting up a video on their X account, @News18Bihar, on Monday in which they falsely claimed that two migrant laborers from their state were thrown off of a speeding train in Chennai.
According to the footage, one of them died from electrocution while the other suffered serious injuries.
A casket holding the deceased’s remains at the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital was also shown in the footage.
The Chennai City Police refuted the allegations in a press release on Wednesday, stating that there was no such incidence inside their jurisdiction and that the report was wholly untrue. News18 Bihar is the subject of a complaint filed under IPC sections 153, 153A(1)(a), 505(1)(b), and 505 (2).
The real event happened on February 6, when a man from Bihar by the name of Mohan Mahto Gram Turkaulia boarded a train that was going to Tambaram at the Villupuram station and was electrocuted, a police official informed TNIE. After being taken to the Kilpauk hospital with serious burns, he passed away there. An investigation was conducted after the Villupuram Government Railway Police filed a complaint. The corpse was transferred to his birthplace after the Villupuram district police granted a no-objection certificate. Therefore, all of the material in the news footage is untrue.
The video had not been removed when TNIE last checked on Wednesday.
