Bank Holidays in August 2023: A Complete List of Days That All Government and Private Banks Will Be Closed

This August, banks will be closed for a total of fourteen days. Banks will also be closed on the second and fourth Saturdays in addition to Sundays.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), according to sources in the media, has divided holidays into three categories: Real-Time Gross Settlement Holidays, Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.

List of Bank Holidays for August 2023

On August 8 (Tendong Lho Rum Faat), Sikkim has a bank holiday.

Independence Day, August 15, is a bank holiday in India.

On August 16 (Parsi New Year, Shahenshahi), Nagpur, Mumbai, and Belapur all have bank holidays.

August 18 (Srimanta Sankardeva’s Day): Guwahati bank holiday

First Onam Day, August 28, is a holiday in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi.

Bank holiday in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram on August 29 (Thiruvonam).

Raksha Bandhan Day, August 30, is a public holiday in Shimla and Jaipur.

Dehradun, Gangtok, Kanpur, Kochi, Lucknow, and Thiruvananthapuram all observe bank holidays on August 31 in observance of Raksha Bandhan, Sri Narayana Guru Jayanthi, and Pang-Lhabsol.

Sunday, August 6

12th of August: Second Saturday

13 August: Sunday

20 August: Sunday

The fourth Saturday of August.

27 August: Sunday

According to the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), banks continue to only have five days of work each week with two weekends off. Currently, bank staff are given the weekends off on the second and fourth Saturdays.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) compiles the list of holidays. They also get vacations on festivals. However, online services are still available on holidays.
