Google and HP will begin producing Chromebooks in India

HP announced on Monday that Google has begun producing Chromebooks in India in cooperation.

The Flex Facility, close to Chennai, where HP has been manufacturing a variety of laptops and desktops since August 2020, is where the Chromebook devices are being made.

“We’re partnering with HP to manufacture Chromebooks in India – These are the first Chromebooks to be made in India and will make it easier for Indian students to have access to affordable and secure computing,” Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in a post on X on Monday.

An HP representative verified that Chromebook manufacture had begun in India.

Online retailers are selling brand-new Chromebooks for as little as Rs 15,990 each.

Under the government’s Rs 17,000 crore production-linked incentive program for IT gear, HP is one of the candidates.

When compared to laptops running proprietary operating systems, Chromebooks are less expensive.

According to a joint statement from Google and HP, Chromebooks are the industry standard for K–12 education and have benefited more than 50 million students and instructors worldwide.

The local manufacture of Chromebooks broadens HP’s selection of India-made PCs.

Since 2020, HP has been growing its manufacturing facilities in India. In December 2021, HP began producing a variety of laptops there, including HP EliteBooks, HP ProBooks, and HP G8 series notebooks.

Additionally, a variety of models of desktop mini towers (MT), mini desktops (DM), small form factor (SFF) desktops, and a selection of All-in-One PCs have been added to the company’s portfolio of locally produced commercial desktops.
