Kerala is the state that people want to work in the most, while Kochi is the city that women want to work in the most: report

The ‘India Skills Report 2024’, published by talent assessment firm Wheebox in collaboration with organizations including Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), reveals Kerala as the most sought-after state in the nation for employable talent, with Kochi ranking highest among Indian cities for female job seekers.

Kerala won the category, pushing Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh to the second and third places, respectively.

Kerala has been the state of choice for job seekers nationwide, both male and female, due to its captivating landscapes and rich cultural heritage. The state is a shining example for those looking for rewarding jobs because of its distinctive combination of economic potential and scenic beauty, the survey said.

Thiruvananthapuram was the third most popular location among female job searchers, with Kochi being their top pick. Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi were ranked third and fifth in the nation, respectively, for male employable talent. Kochi came in second place while Thiruvananthapuram came in fourth place for both male and female job searchers combined.

Kerala has the “highest employable resources in the 18–21 years age group,” according to the survey, ranking second. According to the report, “Kerala has 74.93% employable resources in this age group, while Telangana has the highest concentration of employable talent in the 18–21 age group, with 85.45% found employable.”

In the category of cities with “highest employable resources in the 18–21 age group,” Thiruvananthapuram secured the third position. According to the survey, “Pune ranked first among top cities with employable talent in the 18–21 age group, with 80.82% of candidates found highly employable, followed by Bengaluru with 72.18% and Thiruvananthapuram with 67.22% employable in this age group.”

Thiruvananthapuram emerged as the city with the “highest availability of talent with computer skills.” Kerala was ranked third out of all the states in this category. In addition, the state took third place for “availability of English as a second language.”

Kerala always ranks among the top states for a variety of talents, according to the survey, “showcasing a well-rounded talent pool.” It was predicated on the assessment of 3.88 lakh applicants who appeared in scholastic institutions around the nation and completed the Wheebox National Employability Test (WNET). The state government of Kerala’s effort in the field of higher education, the Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP), has also received particular attention in the study.
