“Patna To Paris, Surat To Seoul,” Says IndiGo CEO Following Airline’s Purchase of 30 Long-Range Airbus

New Delhi: IndiGo’s CEO Pieter Elbers has provided an explanation of how Rahul Bhatia, Group Managing Director of InterGlobe, the airline’s parent company, intends to see the airline’s network expanding over the next several years, after the airline’s order for thirty wide body Airbus A350s was made a day earlier.

This comes after IndiGo, the biggest and least expensive airline in India, placed an order for 30 Airbus A350-900 aircraft to increase its fleet size beyond short-haul flights. Apart from the first order, IndiGo also has the option to buy a further 70 aircraft, with delivery scheduled to start in 2027.

Of the domestic carriers, SpiceJet has leased a few wide-body aircraft, while Air India and Vistara also have wide-body aircraft in their fleets. With their purchase of 500 Airbus aircraft, IndiGo placed the biggest single aircraft order ever made by any airline in June 2023.

IndiGo said that it will link several Indian metropolises to the rest of the globe using A350 aircraft. “The mission capability of this aircraft (A350) coupled with the efficiency of the Trent XWB engine will offer IndiGo unprecedented optionality as it embarks on the next stage of its wonderful journey of addressing the rapidly evolving needs of the Indian customer and our nation,” according to a press release.
