If a taxpayer’s check expires or for any other reason they don’t get their tax refund, they should

tax specialists advise them to contact their Assessing Officer (AO) for a reprint. The designated officer in charge of determining the taxpayer’s income tax obligations is the AO.

The jurisdictional AO of the taxpayer is established by reference to the address shown on their Permanent Account Number (PAN) documentation. The e-filing site has this information. According to AdvantEdge Consulting CEO and chartered accountant Chetan Daga, “the taxpayer can visit the AO’s office to discuss the refund reissue process after identifying the jurisdictional AO.”

The AO may ask the taxpayer to provide a security deposit in the form of an indemnification bond. A legal instrument known as an indemnity bond functions as a guarantee or form of assurance between two parties.

When a taxpayer is requested to provide an indemnity bond in relation to tax refunds, it usually indicates that the taxpayer is offering a formal guarantee to pay the tax authorities in the event that there are any problems or obligations associated with the refund reissuance procedure. The taxpayer guarantees to indemnify or reimburse the tax department in the event that issues with the return occur by signing the indemnity bond.

The income tax agency usually provides an e-filing platform where taxpayers may change their bank data. The reimbursement will be given again via a bank transfer rather than a hard copy check as soon as the bank information are corrected, according to Daga.

As stated by CA In addition to contacting RPMG and Associates partner Rohit Vishnoi via email at orm@cpc. incometax.gov.in, taxpayers may also file complaints and request help with income tax-related issues. This email address is available to taxpayers who want to correct mistakes or inconsistencies in their online-filed income tax returns. He claims that using email to resolve disputes expedites the process. Moreover, taxpayers may get assistance, direction, and information on tax refunds by calling these toll-free numbers: 1 8 0 0 1 0 3 0 0 2 5, 18004190025, 8046122000, and 80614647000. Formal complaints, however, may have to be sent to the relevant tax authorities by email or letter via other methods. According to experts, it can take many trips to finish the documentation and processes needed to get the return. In order to enable the reissuance of the tax refund, the procedure usually entails getting in touch with the Assessing Officer, sending necessary paperwork, such as an indemnity bond, changing bank information, and communicating with the jurisdictional AO. Even though email and toll-free phones are available for support, in some cases in-person visits could be necessary.

Following the 2018–19 Assessment Year (AY), the government moved the tax refund procedure online to expedite it.

It is now necessary for taxpayers to validate their bank accounts via the income tax e-filing site by linking them to their Aadhaar and PAN cards. Vishnoi said there might be issues with the refund if the bank account is not verified on the income tax e-filing system.

Even while this procedure tries to increase speed, it’s crucial to remember that problems like inaccurate bank information or other inconsistencies might still have an influence on the refund process.

“Updates to personal information, such as address, phone number, and email, on time may avoid delays and possible problems with refunds. To keep updated about the progress of their claims, taxpayers should also routinely check their efiling site accounts for any messages or changes on their refunds. When it comes to answering questions about refunds, consulting tax experts or using the I-T department’s web tools may be quite helpful, according to Vishno.
