The GST Council may consider measures to stop the creation of fraudulent ITCs at its next meeting

In order to stop tax cheating, the GST Council will likely examine steps to maintain strong rules against the creation of fictitious Input Tax Credits (ITC) at its meeting next month, according to a senior official on Friday.

On July 11, the GST Council is expected to convene.

Vivek Johri, the chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), made this statement while addressing media outside of an event.

He said that the finance ministry may think about implementing countervailing duties on imports of steel from China.

Johri stated that the ministry has received and is taking into consideration a suggestion for the same.

The report of the Group of Ministers on online gambling, casinos, and horse racing is also expected to be taken into consideration by the GST Council, which is led by Nirmala Sitharaman.

The states would shortly get a copy of the report.

The GST Council received the report from the ministerial team in December of last year, but has yet to review it.
