“Barah by Barah,” starring Gyanendra Tripathi, examines life from the eyes of a “death photographer.”

Mumbai: Through the eyes of a death photographer, the forthcoming 16mm film “Barah by Barah” gives a unique viewpoint on life and death.

Starring Gyanendra Tripathi from “Half CA” and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan from “Thappad,” the movie is set in Varanasi. Gaurav Madan, who met a photographer in Varanasi, directed the movie after seeing “immense cinematic potential” in the topic.

Gaurav Madan said the following in the movie: “I’m from a little village in Haryana called Jagadhri. Because of the government’s decision to extend the nearby highway, my parents were forced to part with our ancestral house. In front of my eyes, the home was destroyed, and we were forced to relocate to a boring housing complex.

“Now, the entire town looks listless, like a big city clone,” he went on. Of course, progress is important, but a part of me longs for the nostalgia and small-town charm of the past. This video tells a personal narrative through the eyes of a unique protagonist that, in my opinion, will speak to anybody who is struggling with change.

The movie made its international debut at the Shanghai International Film Festival after making its Indian premiere at IFFK, Kerala. Akash Sinha, Bhumika Dube, and Harish Khanna are also featured.

The film’s path from filming to festival debut to current theatrical release, according to writer-producer Sunny Lahiri, has been “challenging yet magical.”

“It was an enormous task to navigate a resourceful production while balancing credibility and passion for storytelling, be it shooting on celluloid or on location amid the rising tensions of cremation fires, smoke, and mourners,” the actor said. The commitment of the actors and staff, who put their everything into this movie, was incredibly motivating. I am pleased to finally be able to release the picture in theaters and am very proud of it.

The movie, which is slated for a May 24 theatrical release, is distributed by Shiladitya Bora’s Platoon Distribution and produced and presented by Jignesh Patel’s Amdavaad Pictures.
