Day 5 of the Merry Christmas box office collection: Katrina Kaif film continues to decline, earning Rs 1.15 crore

Merry Christmas, starring Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, had its theatrical premiere on January 12 to favorable reviews from both reviewers and viewers. It was directed by Sriram Raghavan. With an opening day revenue of Rs 2.45 crore, the movie had a sluggish start.

Early estimates from Sacnilk.com indicate that the movie’s box office earnings on day five dropped even more, to only Rs 1.15 crore. Day 4 of the Katrina Kaif film brought in Rs 1.65 crore on Monday. The movie has made a total of Rs 12.50 crore at the box office.

Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi star in both the Hindi and Tamil versions, which were shot with distinct supporting casts. While Radhika Sarathkumar, Shanmugaraja, Kavin Jay Babu, and Rajesh Williams play supporting parts in the Tamil version, Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kannan, and Tinnu Anand star in the Hindi version. In both versions, Ashwini Kalsekar and Radhika Apte have brief cameos.

“Mumbaikar” and “Jawan” were Vijay Sethupathi’s two prior Bollywood films. “Merry Christmas” is his third feature. “Mumbaikar” made its JioCinema debut, while “Jawan” brought in more over Rs 1100 crore at the box office worldwide. Katrina Kaif, meanwhile, made her last appearance with Salman Khan in the espionage thriller “Tiger 3,” which brought in more than Rs 450 crore at the box office globally.

With a resume that includes “Ek Hasina Thi,” “Johnny Gaddaar,” “Agent Vinod,” “Badlapur,” and “Andhadhun,” Sriram Raghavan directs “Merry Christmas” as his sixth major film. Agastya Nanda and Dharmendra will play the key parts in his next film, “Ikkis,” a biography of the 1971 Indo-Pak war hero Arun Khetarpal, which is slated for release on January 10, 2025.
