Dispelling myths: Lara Dutta declares that she would never want to portray a role that is any younger than she is

Bollywood actress Lara Dutta, who is renowned for her adaptable roles, recently discussed her thoughts on the depiction of aging in the business. In contrast to the popular practice of male performers playing roles far younger than their real age, she stressed the need of representing women of all ages honestly.

Speaking with Pinkvilla, Lara discussed her thoughts on how women are portrayed in Indian movies and emphasized the need of showing women beyond a certain age.She said that women in our nation were never represented beyond a particular age for the longest period ever. Lara saw the shallow and unauthentic stereotyped roles that women were allocated, such as mothers, mothers-in-law, or suffering daughters-in-law.

Lara is helping to shift the narrative with her latest roles, which include that of a politician in the television series “Ranneeti: Balakot and Beyond” and that of former prime minister Indira Gandhi in “BellBottom.” Adding emphasis to her decision, she said, “I have no interest in playing a character that’s any younger than I am right now.”

Lara drew attention to the current occurrence of male actors playing roles that span many age groups, highlighting Shah Rukh Khan’s depiction of an older version of himself in “Jawan” and “Dunki,” as well as a 30-something character. Similar to this, in “Laal Singh Chaddha,” Aamir Khan portrayed the transformation from a young child to a middle-aged man.
In the future, Lara’s most recent endeavor, “Ranneeti: Balakot & Beyond,” was published on April 25. Ashutosh Rana, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Jimmy Shergill are among the ensemble cast members in the series.
