How Abhishek Bachchan Conquered The Part Of A Drunken Coach in Ghoomar

Ghoomer, the most recent film starring Abhishek Bachchan, was well praised by critics for its original plot and outstanding performances when it was released on August 18. Abhishek plays Padam Singh Sodhi in the film, who is an alcoholic who coaches Saiyami Kher’s character, Anina. Despite the difficult nature of the part, Abhishek recently spoke out about why he decided not to drink during shooting.

During a chat, Abhishek said that he made a deliberate decision to refrain from drinking while playing the role. “If I had to force myself to pick just one thing, I believe it would have to be the alcohol,” he said in his explanation. Really, not even a drop of alcohol was consumed throughout the creation process. I’ve heard from several actors that they like sometimes drinking and acting in intoxicated situations since it adds to the reality of the moment. However, it was obvious that I didn’t want to do that.

Abhishek Bachchan purposefully opted to reverse this story for his character Paddy in Ghoomer, showing the coach as the most composed and coherent while being inebriated. In contrast to the traditional portrayal of a drunken character, Abhishek sought to challenge stereotypes by presenting Paddy as surprisingly composed and coherent even when he was drunk. “We tried to flip it, and that was, I think, a big challenge for me,” he said after giving this some thought.

Ghoomar tells the inspirational tale of a paraplegic athlete who, with her coach’s unwavering support, succeeds as a cricket player. The story, which was co-written by R Balki, Rahul Sengupta, and Rishi Virmani, is inspired by the extraordinary life of the late Karoly Takacs, a right-hand shooter from Hungary who won two gold medals in the Olympics in spite of a catastrophic injury. Shabana Azmi and Angad Bedi play important supporting parts in the movie as well.
