Javed Ali on singing “Saaqiya” for “Sultan of Delhi”: It’s a Very Important Song Since Milan Luthra Wrote It With A Lot Of Interest

With the television series “Sultan Of Delhi,” director Milan Luthria makes his OTT directorial debut. He has also written his first lyrics for the calming Sufi tune “Saaqiya.” None other than vocalist Javed Ali performs it. The 60s charm of the Qawali song is palpable, and it touches your heart. Sangeet and Siddharth Haldipur created the soulful track’s music. Before the song was released, Javed Ali and I had a chat in which he discussed the song, his love of Sufi music, and a lot more.

Describe your brand-new song from “Sultan of Delhi.” Is there a message included? What effect will it have on the series, and how?

Because Milan Sir wrote it with such care, it is a highly significant song. Of course, as a director and filmmaker, he has a very distinct style. This song will thus have a big influence. And we put a lot of effort into creating this song, which has a great composition. This song is highly vibrant all around. I sense it. So, I’m hoping folks like this song.

How long have you been singing Qawalis, and how does it feel?

In reality, I performed a Qawali in “Rockstar.” A Sufi tune was playing. However, the combinations of Sufi and Qawali are comparable. I then performed a song from “D-Day” for Shankar Ahsaan after that. It has been a while since I last sang this song. In actuality, I get several offers from singles. However, I don’t perform many Qawali songs in singles. Considering that it is a web series for a movie. I thus sung it. And it was excellent.

Do you believe there to be a significant distinction between singles and movie songs? Which one are you most fond of?

Both. The distinction is that the songs from movies are inspired by the plot and the lead actor. There is a great need in the circumstance. Therefore, you must display it in line with the character. If you discuss singles, you may give it whatever color you choose. Thus, everyone has an own style. But I really like both of them.

Sufi, Qawali, and other arts are your specialties. Which shape is most dear to your heart?

I adore Sufi music. Sufi and qawali are equivalent. I like romantic songs as well.
