Meet the newest national treasure of India, a 23-year-old who outperformed celebrities in Heeramandi—not Tamannaah, Rashmika, Tripti, or Disha

In the modern day, an actor might become well-known in two ways. First, they receive known for their work or on-screen appearance in a major motion picture. Being a minor but important member of a cult is the second. May 2024 has delivered a little bit of both for young Pratibha Ranta.

The actress gained attention for her roles in the films Heeramandi and Laapataa Ladies after making her Bollywood debut earlier this year. Many have dubbed her the new national crush of India because of her looks and easy charisma on TV.

Pratibha Ranta is who?

Pratibha Ranta, who was born in Shimla in 2000, debuted as an actress in the 2020 television series Qurbaan Hua with Karan Jotwani. Pratibha played the lead in the program, which was canceled in September 2021 because to poor viewership. The actress later appeared in another TV series called Aadha Ishq. Pratibha made her screen debut in Kiran Rao’s Lapataa Ladies in March of this year, costarring with two other up-and-coming actors, Sparsh Srivastava and Nitanshi Goel. Both reviewers and viewers praised her for the role she played in the movie. When Laapataa Ladies was released on OTT in May, her notoriety increased.

How, after Heeramandi, Pratibha Ranta became the country’s darling

Pratibha’s subsequent on-screen role was in the Netflix series Heeramandi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The youthful performer portrayed Shama, the aspirational offspring of Sanjeeda Sheikh’s Waheeda character. Pratibha was able to make an impression on the audience in spite of the presence of big names like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, and Aditi Rao Hydari. Many people have said online that she is even more remarkable than one of the main stars of the program, Sharmin Segal. The phrase “new national crush,” which has previously been used to actresses such as Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimri, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, and Shraddha Kapoor, was coined in reference to her simplicity and on-screen persona.
