33 people are been held in Turkey on allegations of attacking

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on Sunday that 33 people who were reportedly planning attacks ahead of the nation’s local elections later this month were apprehended by Turkish police on suspicion of having links to the Islamic State organization.

He wrote on X that the suspects were “getting ready and looking for action before the upcoming local elections.” On March 31, there are scheduled to be national elections. During searches, anti-terrorism police in Sakarya, northwest Turkey, found cash, weapons, and “organizational documents.” “There will be no room for terrorists.” With the outstanding work of our security forces, we will carry on our struggle without interruption,” Yerlikaya said.

He said that the network, which operated out of illegal mosques and religious schools, was supplying manpower for conflict zones and financial assistance for IS. Additionally, the organization was connected to the worst incident in the nation, which took place in October 2015 at a peace march in Ankara and left over 100 people dead. Over the last ten years, Turkey has been the target of many IS-related incidents, one of which was a gun attack on a church in Istanbul in January that claimed one life.
