90-year-old Nobel laureate in economics Daniel Kahneman passes away

Daniel Kahneman, a 90-year-old Israeli-American cognitive psychologist and recipient of the Nobel Prize in Economics, has passed away.

“We lost one of the brightest minds we have known,” Israel’s President Isaac Herzog said in a statement on Wednesday. He also said that Kahneman’s study has shaped history and altered how people see the world, giving Israel and the Jewish people a tremendous deal of pride.

According to the Israeli President, “his research will continue to contribute to humanity and science even after his death, as will the many students he inspired,” the Xinhua news agency cited him as saying.

For incorporating insights from psychology study into economic science—particularly with regard to human judgement and decision-making in uncertain circumstances—Kahneman was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2002.
