Crisis in the Middle East: Five rockets fired from Iraq against a US military base in Syria

New Delhi: Following airstrikes by Iran and Israel against one another, the Middle East is still on the verge of a full-scale war. On Sunday, missiles fired from within Iran attacked US soldiers in Syria.

According to two Iraqi security officials who spoke to Reuters, at least five rockets were launched on Sunday from the Iraqi town of Zummar at a US military installation in northeastern Syria.

This occurs one day after Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s return from a trip to the United States. Additionally, the PM of Iraq made a visit to US President Joe Biden at the White House.

Zummar, a town bordering Syria, was the location of a rocket launcher placed on the back of a small vehicle, according to news agency Reuters, which cited two security sources and a senior army official.

Since early February, when Iranian-backed militants in Iraq ceased their operations against US soldiers, this is the first strike against US forces.
