“Excellent advancements” in the negotiation between Israel and Hamas: FM of Qatar

According to the foreign minister of Qatar, there has been “good progress” in the last few days in the attempts to mediate a settlement between Israel and Hamas.

Statements released by the Qatari Foreign Ministry on social media platform X state that Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who is also the country’s prime minister, made the comments at a joint press conference with Josep Borrell, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in the capital of Qatar, Doha.

According to Xinhua news agency, the comments stated that during their discussion on Sunday, the EU official and the Qatari minister spoke about how to work together to find a long-term, peaceful solution to the political and humanitarian aspects of the Gaza problem.

“Achieving an immediate cease-fire and ending all reprisal operations and indiscriminate attacks on the Gaza Strip is our top priority,” Al Thani said during the meeting, according to the remarks.

The Minister expressed optimism that a solution would be achieved in this respect as quickly as possible to expedite it, and emphasized that “what is] most important is to see humanitarian aid and assistance flowing into Gaza.”

Qatar has been trying to mediate between the warring sides, get Hamas to free its prisoners, and defuse the situation in Gaza ever since the Israel-Hamas conflict broke out on October 7.
