Exclusive: All eyes are on Imran as the Pakistan Army’s discord may worsen due to his rejection of Prez Alvi’s “Immunity Offer.”

Following the turmoil that surrounded Pakistan’s elections on February 8, President Arif Alvi has made a “immunity offer” to former Prime Minister Imran Khan in an attempt to protect him from the many accusations that have been made against him. According to individuals who spoke with CNN-News18, his rejection of this offer has increased political tensions and may further the rift between his party and the strong army.

The president, who was chosen by the PTI, plans to use Article 45 of Pakistan’s constitution, which permits pardons for anyone who could otherwise face legal consequences. Alvi wishes to clear the 71-year-old lawmaker and former cricket player of what he called “bogus charges.” Even though Imran Khan is aware of the purported biases of the court, he is steadfast in his intention to take legal action.

Pakistan is now preparing for the election of a new president. Two days before half of the senators retire at the end of their six-year terms, on March 9, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is scheduled to conduct the nation’s presidential election. The presidential election must be place before March 9—just two days before half of the Senate’s 100 members retire—because the general elections were held on February 8.

According to sources in Pakistani media, the Senate elections were scheduled for the first week of March as well. However, owing to the postponement of the national and provincial assembly general elections, the Senate elections will now take place in the last week of March or the first week of April. There has reportedly been an increase in threats against Khan and his family, including his third wife, Bushra Bibi, around the time of this revelation over the “immunity offer.”

Unsettling information surfaced in a recent CNN-News18 exposé, pointing to a coordinated attempt to kill Khan and his family. Khan’s spouse reportedly barely avoided a possible danger. Khan allegedly turned down offers for a negotiated solution from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), which further complicated things. Khan angrily rejected the alleged conditions of the deal, which included retiring from politics or choosing other candidates for prime minister.
