“Global hub for terrorism”: India attacks Pakistan harshly for bringing up the J-K issue before the UN

Geneva: India responded sharply to Pakistan’s repeated mention of Jammu and Kashmir before the UN Human Rights Council, stating that it needs to first consider its appalling record on human rights and that it should be known as the “world’s terrorism factory.” On Monday, Jagpreet Kaur, the Under Secretary of India’s Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva, made the following statements:.

“We have taken the floor previously during this session and conveyed our disinclination to waste the Council’s time in responding to fallacious comments about India by one particular delegation, which does so as they do not have anything constructive to contribute,” Kaur said, exercising India’s right to reply at the general debate at the 55th regular session of the UNHRC.

This occurred when Pakistan, speaking on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), brought up the Jammu and Kashmir problem. It is regrettable that “this country continues with its diatribe against India, including by continuing to misuse the OIC’s platform to further their own politically motivated agenda,” Kaur added, omitting to mention Pakistan.

“We do not wish to dignify such remarks by responding to them, and we are taking the floor again only to urge that delegation to reflect on their own appalling human rights record and their deserved global reputation as the world’s terrorism factory,” she said.

“A nation deeply scarred by terrorism”: India to Pakistan
Regarding the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, India took a strong stance against Pakistan last week, declaring that the country was stained crimson by the carnage caused by the international terrorists it supports. Regarding Pakistan’s extensive remarks against India, First Secretary Anupama Singh expressed sadness that the Council’s venue had once again been misused to spread egregiously false allegations about India.

“A country that has institutionalized the systemic persecution of its own minorities and has a truly abysmal human rights record, commenting on India, which is demonstrably making great strides in achieving economic progress and social justice, is not merely ironical but perverse,” Singh said.

In her assessment of India, she said that “a nation whose pluralistic ethos and democratic credentials are exemplars for the world is a contrast for everyone to see” with a nation that harbors and applauds terrorists with UN approval. The Secretary also brought up the violence against Christians that occurred in August of last year when a vengeful mob set fire to Christian homes and churches.

“The constitutional measures implemented by the Indian government to guarantee socioeconomic development and good governance in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are matters internal to India. The entire Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are an integral and inalienable part of India.” She said, “Pakistan has no right or authority to make decisions on Indian internal affairs.
