Imran Khan was identified as the attack’s mastermind, and the army courts are prepared to rule: References

Based on the testimony of witnesses who have made statements critical of the 71-year-old founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), former prime minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has emerged as the mastermind behind the violence on military installations on May 9 of last year, News18 was informed by top sources close to the Pakistani establishment.

According to sources, none of these eyewitnesses have received any direct or indirect promises of concessions.

A dozen military buildings, including the ISI facility in Faisalabad, Mianwali Airbase, and Jinnah House (the Lahore Corps Commander House), were vandalized by PTI supporters on May 9 of last year. For the first time, the crowd also assaulted the Army headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

Khan, however, has insisted that his party was singled out for violence on May 9 and that the violent protests that targeted the Corps Commander House and the Pakistan Army’s GHQ were a part of the “London agreement,” according to which Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), is being favored by the potent Pakistan Army.

Ninety percent of the cases against over one hundred defendants have already been finished. However, the verdicts in these instances are not yet been rendered and will probably be combined with the rulings of military tribunals. The rulings of the military tribunals will be published, sources said, after the nation’s top court grants its approval.

According to an official, “the establishment is taking this very seriously and those who are behind this attack will be given harsh punishment.”

Since his removal from office in 2022, Imran Khan has been found guilty four times. He will carry out the whole of his 34-year sentence consecutively.

On Saturday, a Pakistani court found Khan and his spouse guilty of breaking the law during their 2018 marriage and sentenced them to seven years in jail. The most recent decision comes after Khan and his spouse, Bushra Bibi, were found guilty of corruption on Wednesday and given a 14-year jail term.

Prior to the February 8 legislative elections, Imran Khan is facing an increasing number of legal issues. The PTI president has already been declared ineligible due to convictions for corruption, and his party is finding it difficult to organize an effective campaign.

Due to security concerns, Khan’s trials were conducted in the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, where he is now serving numerous prison sentences.

He is involved in around 150 court proceedings, some of which stem from his incitement of violence after his arrest in May 2023.
