Indian envoy to improve relations with Sri Lanka

During his first official visit to the Northern Province of Sri Lanka, Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha emphasized the need of better connectivity between the two nations.

The Indian High Commission released a statement on Sunday after the recently appointed Indian envoy’s three-day first tour to the island nation’s north was concluded on Saturday. A testament to the “deep-rooted nature of the bilateral partnership as well as India’s firm commitment to deepening socio-economic and cultural ties with Northern Province,” he took part in a variety of activities during the tour, according to the statement.

While visiting the Talaimannar Pier and the Kankesanthurai (KKS) Port, Jha emphasized connectivity and stressed the need to resume ferry services between the two nations as soon as possible.

According to the statement, he looked at ways to improve air connectivity at the airport by developing its infrastructure when he was there.

After India’s Alliance Air started operating flights from Chennai to Palaly in 2023, Sri Lanka requested financial help from India to expand the runway at the Palaly airport.

At the famed Ram Sethu (Adam’s Bridge), the High Commissioner said prayers. Additionally, he went to the historic Thiruketheeswaram temple, which was restored with funding from the Indian government, according to the statement. In an effort to help the islands off the coast of Jaffna with their energy demands, Jha evaluated Nainativu Island’s preparedness for an early implementation of the Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems Project.
