Indian-Origin MP denounces Threat to Hindu Temple in Canada, Saying “Khalistan Group Wants Trouble”

Concerned about the ongoing danger presented by pro-Khalistani groups in the nation, Canadian MP Chandra Arya has once again called on the government to “step in and take action.” In a post on the social networking site X, Arya noted the increasing number of instances of Sikh extremists damaging Hindu temples, and she said the gang now intended to cause problems at a temple in Surrey.

Some accounts state that last week, supporters of Khalistan verbally assaulted a Sikh family at a Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia. It seems that the same Khalistan organization is now trying to stir up problems at the Surrey Hindu Laxmi Narayan Mandir. The Indian-origin MP wrote on X that “all of these are being done in the name of freedom of speech and expression.”

“Like a shattered record”

As if on repeat, I beg the Canadian government to intervene and take appropriate action once again. In the last several years, there have been many attacks on Hindu temples. Hindu Canadians are the target of hate crimes. It is not appropriate to allow these things to be carried out in a transparent and open manner, he said.

India has voiced grave worries over the increase in pro-Khalistani activities and assaults on Hindu temples in Canada, coinciding with the new threats. Extremists used posters for the Khalistan referendum to deface a Hindu shrine in August. Anti-Indian graffiti was also written on the BAPS Swaminarayan temple in Ontario, Canada, in April.

The Vancouver Consulate General in Abbotsford hosted an Indian High Commission event last week, which was disrupted by members of the outlawed Sikhs For Justice (SFJ). According to accounts, a local Sikh family was the target of Khalistani thugs when they went to the Gurudwara Sahib to receive their elderly father’s life certificate.
