Neel Acharya, an Indian student studying in Indiana, was reported missing and found dead the day after

Indiana state officials have officially declared Indian student Neel Acharya, who had been missing since Sunday, dead. Acharya was a Purdue University student.

According to the Tippecanoe County coroner, when police responded to 500 Allison Road in West Lafayette in response to a potential dead body, they discovered a deceased “college-aged male” on the Purdue University campus.

Neel’s mother Goury Acharya posted on X on Sunday informing the police and the Indian embassy in Chicago of her son’s disappearance. Neel Acharya, our son, vanished yesterday, January 28, around 12:30 AM EST. In the US, he is a student at Purdue University. The Uber driver who dropped him off at Purdue University was the last person to see him. We are searching for any information available on him. If you know anything, please let us know,” she wrote.

The Purdue Exponent, an independent multimedia agency, confirmed Neel’s death and notified students and faculty of it in an email sent to the university’s computer science department on Monday. The Indian consulate in Chicago responded by saying that it is making every effort to locate Neel.

“I must tell you with deep sorrow that Neel Acharya, one of our pupils, has gone away. Chris Clifton, interim dean of computer science at Purdue University, expressed his sorrow to the man’s friends, family, and everyone else impacted.

“He possessed academic talent and was a motivated individual.” It’s unexpected. A true loss to our neighborhood,” Clifton said.

Neel Acharya was a John Martinson Honors College double major in computer science and data science. He was described as a “loving, charismatic soul, and will be cherished by all of us” by his buddy and roommate Aryan Khanolkar.

The horrific murder of Vivek Saini, an additional Indian student living in the US state of Georgia, comes after the death of Neel Acharya. Inside the convenience store where Vivek worked a part-time job, a homeless guy named Julian Faulkner repeatedly struck him with a hammer, killing him.
