No Doubt the Ukraine War Will Come Up in Biden and PM Modi’s Conversations, Says the White House

President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undoubtedly address the situation in Ukraine during the latter’s first state visit to the nation, according to a senior White House official on Tuesday.

“I have no doubt that this week’s state visit with Prime Minister Modi will include discussion of the conflict in Ukraine. Without a doubt,” said John Kirby, the Strategic Communications Coordinator for the White House National Security Council.

I’m unable to predict how much they will discuss a peace conference or a peace plan at this time, he said.

During a briefing at the Foreign Press Center on the preview of Prime Minister Modi’s state visit, Kirby responded to a question about the war in Ukraine with these statements.

On the first leg of his first state visit to the US, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with a thunderous greeting as he landed here on Tuesday.

At the UN headquarters, Modi will preside over the International Day of Yoga festivities and meet privately with President Joe Biden in Washington.

Modi will depart from New York and fly to Washington, D.C., where he will meet with President Biden.

The prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, stated in a statement before leaving, “This visit will be an opportunity to enrich the depth and diversity of our partnership.”

According to Modi, his meetings with President Biden and other top US officials would provide him the chance to strengthen bilateral ties as well as those in multilateral fora like the G20, Quad, and IPEF (Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity).

With an emphasis on greater collaboration in the military sector and the sharing of cutting-edge technologies, PM Modi’s visit to the US is anticipated to mark a turning point in bilateral ties.

The visit is expected to enhance the new relationship between India and the United States, which spans not just international politics but also commerce and economics, by giving India access to crucial American technology that Washington seldom shares with non-allies.

Over the last two decades, Washington and New Delhi, long separated by mutual hostility during the Cold War, have become more entwined as US presidents have shown bipartisan support for tighter relations with India.

A further goal of the Biden administration is to wean India away from its dependable and long-standing military ally, Russia.

In the wake of the invasion of Ukraine, New Delhi expanded its imports of cheap Russian oil while maintaining economic ties with Moscow, which infuriated the West.
