On Australian beaches during Christmas, more than 120 kg of “cocaine bricks” washed up

Sydney: Unidentified parcels thought to contain more than 120 kg of cocaine washed ashore during the Christmas season, according to Australian police, who said on Wednesday that they were searching beaches.

According to authorities, the first batch of 39 one-kilogram blocks of suspected cocaine wrapped in barnacles was found on Friday close to Magenta Beach, north of Sydney.

Since then, state police said that 85 other parcels of similar size had been seen sighted around the coastline of New South Wales, spanning about 80 kilometers (50 miles).

According to a statement from Detective Chief Superintendent Jason Weinstein, the police asked the public to report any suspicious parcels.

Director of the state’s crime command Weinstein said, “Detectives and specialist police are currently combing beaches and coastlines for any outstanding packages and working behind the scenes to make sure we find and hold accountable those responsible.”
