Pakistani security personnel foil a planned assault on the Mach prison in the province of Balochistan

KARACHI: Following a daring assault on Mach prison in the nation’s volatile Balochistan province on Monday night by highly armed terrorists, Pakistani security forces used rockets and advanced weaponry to stop at least three coordinated attempts. According to a top police officer, the Central Mach Jail, which houses some violent extremists and death row inmates, was the target of at least 15 missiles.

There was no official confirmation of the number of dead or injuries, while unconfirmed sources claimed that the assault claimed the lives of at least two police officers and wounded a truck driver.
The rockets were launched from neighboring mountains and burst in several Mach town locations.
Terrorists infiltrated the Mach train station and targeted a security force camp next to the central prison after shooting rockets.
The source said that after that, loudspeakers were used to warn the populace to stay indoors as the gunfire persisted.
The information minister for Balochistan, Jan Achakzai, said, “They fired rockets at the Mach jail building but couldn’t hit the target.”
The Mach jail’s residential colony walls were struck by rockets, as revealed by Shuja Kasi, the Inspector General of Prisons in Balochistan.
He stated, “Mortar shells and rockets exploded close to the colony’s walls,” but no casualties had been recorded as of yet.
He said that 800 inmates, some of whom were on death row, were now housed at Mach Jail.
The Majeed Brigade of the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) organization eventually claimed responsibility for the incident, however the minister first stated the terrorists were associated with the Aslam Acho gang.
The highly armed terrorists and the military engaged in gunfire for a few hours, according to a security officer, until the terrorists withdrew into the nearby mountains before daybreak.
He claimed that no installations had been reported damaged.
