Romanian nationals are granted visa exemption by Turkey
Ankara, 22 May Romanian nationals may now enter Turkey without a passport, according to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
During a joint news conference with visiting Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu on Tuesday, Erdogan said that Romanian nationals will be able to enter Turkey with their IDs.
According to a report by the Xinhua news agency, the Turkish President further said, “We believe that our human relations will improve this way.”
Erdogan and Ciolacu were present at the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council between Turkey and Romania on Tuesday in Ankara.
Erdogan said that the bilateral trade volume between Romania and Turkey has surpassed $10 billion over the last two years, with a target of $15 billion.
For his part, Ciolacu expressed gratitude to Erdogan for the decision to free Romanian nationals traveling as tourists and transiting through Turkey from the need for a visa.
The prime minister of Romania said in a post on the social media site X that his administration would continue to support Turkey as a significant partner in important domains and advance the conversation about Turkey’s EU membership.
Romania and Turkey inked six significant agreements during his tenure that included cooperation in a number of areas, such as tourism, urbanization, and police force training.
