Six people are hurt during a United Airlines emergency landing due to turbulence and medical concerns

NEW DELHI: On Friday, a United Airlines aircraft headed for New Jersey was diverted to an airfield in upstate New York, necessitating the hospitalisation of at least six people. According to United’s correspondence with Fox News Digital, this diversion—caused by both strong winds and a medical problem aboard—led to an unplanned arrival at New York Stewart International Airport in New Windsor at around 6:45 p.m.

The aircraft from Tel Aviv, Israel, encountered difficulties when the wind at Newark Liberty International Airport forced a detour. United Airlines stated to Fox News Digital that the flight did not experience “extreme turbulence” despite turbulence complaints from New Windsor EMS. Rather, the event concerned a single customer who was having medical problems, and medical staff assessed many other passengers to see whether they could have motion sickness.
Twenty-five EMTs and paramedics responded to the situation, treating patients at the airport in New Windsor. Six people on the 310-passenger and crew aircraft needed to be hospitalised, while others received treatment for minor ailments.
After the incident, the plane refuelled and headed back to Newark. The circumstances underlying the diversion and the events leading up to it are now being looked into by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
In a statement issued later that day, Orange County executive Steven M. Neuhaus said that the aircraft was carrying around 200 people. Some of these passengers needed to be evaluated at nearby hospitals after the diversion, while others were driven to the airport in Newark.
