The president of Indiana State University denounces the racist video that went viral and included a nursing student

Following the release of Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter country album, one of Indiana State University’s students shared a racist video on Yik Yak. The university has now released another statement in reaction to the incident. The university’s president denounced the film and said that the views of the students did not align with the university’s values.

ISU President Deborah J. Curtis said that the university collaborated with the “Vice President for Student Affairs to identify the student, communicate directly with student leaders, and strategize how to prioritize well-being and safety” as soon as it was learned that an ISU student had produced the video.

“Racism, hate speech, and discrimination of any kind is deplorable and in direct contradiction of Indiana State’s mission,” the president said, denouncing the remarks said in the video. The views expressed by the student in the video do not in any way reflect Indiana State University’s values and objectives.”

Asa Blanton, a nursing student at the public institution, was recognized as the student. The youngster was heard in the video stating that Black people are not eligible to be citizens. The nursing student also mentioned the time of slavery in her “rant”.

I’m sorry, but being Black makes you not country. I am aware that either your grandparents or you were reared in a rural area. However, they were selecting. They weren’t cultivating. Remember that. They weren’t profitable. They were being bought and sold for cash,” Blanton said.
Following the video’s release, it gained a lot of popularity on Yik Yak and TikTok, which prompted many demonstrations on campus.
