Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations last 12 days in this district of Bihar

The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi commemorates the birth of the elephant-headed deity of insight, wealth, and prosperity, Lord Ganesha. Another name for it is Vinayaka Chaturthi. It will be observed from September 19 to September 28 this year. It is one of the festivals that is most commonly observed in India, particularly in the Nalanda area of Bihar and western Maharashtra. In the Nalanda area, Lord Ganesha is referred to as Budhwa Ganesh. In the vicinity of the Sohsarai police station, Nalanda headquarters, Bihar Sharif, a beautiful statue of Budhwa Ganesha has been constructed.

There are a few more intriguing aspects of this festival’s observance in Nalanda as well. According to researcher Suresh Prasad and his pupil Simran, Budhwa Ganesh worship has been practiced for the last 125 years. Additionally, Ganesh Chaturthi is observed here for 12 days rather than the customary 10 days. According to Suresh Prasad, the celebration of this holiday began 125 years ago when businesspeople from Gujarat and Maharashtra began to go to Bihar for employment. Once, during Ganesh Chaturthi, they were unable to go back to their houses. They therefore made the decision to create an idol of Lord Ganesha to remember the Nalanda celebration. Up until now, this practice has persisted.

Suresh said that in the past, people traveled to Nalanda to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi, including those from Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, only the natives from Nalanda used to observe the celebration; however, people from other districts of Bihar have begun to do so as well. On the occasion of Bhado ki Chauth, the locals of Nalanda install Lord Ganesha’s statue in their houses throughout this 12-day celebration. Then, on the auspicious festival of Ashwin Dooj, the devotees lead the procession of Lord Ganesha. They go above and above to stage a huge parade and commemorate it with song and dancing. The event comes to a conclusion when they submerge Lord Ganesha.

The Chaturthi tithi will start on September 18 at 12:39 PM and end on September 19 at 1:43 PM.
