A lunar eclipse is a celestial phenomena that happens when the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon. In India, it is also known as Chandra Grahan. Pandit Kalki Ram says that the age of the fourth epoch of the world, Kali Yuga, is shortened by 5000 years during a solar eclipse. The duration of the Kali Yuga is reduced by 2,548 years during a moon eclipse.
