10-Year-Old Boy Killed by a Crocodile in Kendrapara, Odisha; Half-Eaten Body Found

In the Kendrapara district of Odisha, a 10-year-old child was reportedly murdered by a crocodile, according to authorities. They said that Ashutosh Acharya, a class 5 student, was attacked by the crocodile while taking a dip in the Brahmani river in the hamlet of Nimapur, which lies on the fringes of the Bhitarkanika National Park.

Locals searched for the boy’s half-eaten corpse for an hour before discovering it, according to a police official from the Pattamundai police station, where the event took place on Wednesday.

The saltwater crocodile breeding season is now in full swing, and according to Rajnagar Mangrove (Wildlife) forest division experts, if they feel any disturbance with their environment at this time, they would become aggressive.

They said that Rs 6 lakh will be handed as an ex-gratia to the deceased’s relatives. 1,793 saltwater crocodiles reside in the Bhitarkanika National Park and the nearby Mahanadi deltaic zone, they said.
