31 file papers for byelections and 51 for four LS seats

51 candidates have submitted their nomination papers for the Lok Sabha elections, while 33 have done the same for the June 1 Assembly byelections.

On the last day to file nominations, today, a total of 27 nominations were submitted for the six Assembly seats and the four Lok Sabha seats. Three candidates from the Shimla Lok Sabha seat, seven from Mandi, six from Kangra, and one from the Hamirpur parliamentary constituency submitted their applications. In addition, ten candidates registered for the six byelections for the Assembly.

Five female candidates have submitted nominations for the Lok Sabha elections, including two each from Mandi and Hamirpur, Kangra, and Shimla. Furthermore, for the six Assembly byelections, three female candidates—one from each of Lahaul-Spiti, Sujanpur, and Gagret—have submitted their applications. The two most well-known female candidates in the race are Anuradha Rana for the Lahaul-Spiti Assembly seat and Kangana Ranaut for the Mandi parliamentary constituency. In Himachal, there will be a single-phase election on June 1 and a vote-counting session on June 4.
