Amritsar: Unresolved civic concerns persist in remote regions

Very few political parties are serious about addressing the issues of sanitation and promoting growth in rural and peripheral communities, much alone finding solutions. Not even political figures visit rural regions and people to learn about their plight.

The majority of the district of Amritsar’s connection roads are in terrible shape. The AAP administration, as well as the previous Congress government, are accused by residents of border villages and small towns of ignoring Amritsar regions in favour of the Malwa region.

Numerous roads that were repaved under the SAD-BJP administration now need immediate maintenance. The road projects that were authorized during the Congress administration are still unfinished. Recarpeting some connection roads was promised by PWD Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO a few months ago, however work has not yet begun on the projects.

Several roads within the Majitha Assembly constituency are in appalling condition. The main road’s recarpeting is still not complete. For the last two years, the road outside the home of AAP politician and constituency head Lally Majithia has remained unfinished. The smooth passage of cars is impeded by stones scattered over the road, causing discomfort to commuters. Another significant problem that plagues people in different areas is sanitation. Local governments do not properly remove rubbish.

Politicians never get tired of boasting about progress, even while the parties they belong to are no longer in control. Most cities and villages lack even the most basic facilities. Potholes abound on rural roads, giving commuters a rough ride. Mandi Board and PWD don’t have the money to implement a patchwork system, according to Majitha resident Ravinder Singh.

The roadways have new carpet installed by the Akali administration. Following it, the administration led by Captain Amrinder neglected civic problems, and now the AAP dictatorship is neglecting border regions. The MLAs can’t get development money together. Another resident, Gurpreet, said that small towns and villages lack the infrastructure necessary for managing solid garbage.
