Sixty percent (9,145 MT) of the overall product that has arrived in the markets, according to district authorities, has been purchased. Just 714 MT of the total were acquired by private companies, compared to 8,431 MT by government procurement agencies.

The greatest amount of government procurement agencies’ purchases to far has been made by Markfed (3,462 MT), Pungrain (2,360 MT), Punjab Warehousing Corporation (1,329 MT), and Punsup (1280 MT). The Central Government’s procurement arm, Food Corporation of India (FCI), has not yet made any purchases in the area.

In the district, 1.88 lakh hectares of wheat were planted, and by the conclusion of the season, 7.5 lakh metric tons of grain should be arriving at the markets. The district administration has also requested that the Food and Civil Supplies Corporation and procurement organizations make sure that the produce is lifted from the mandis on schedule, since harvesting has accelerated.

By the end of this week, harvesting will be at its height, according to Mandi Board officials. They said that attempts were being made to guarantee prompt acquisition of the food as soon as it was brought to market.

Farmers have been urged by the district administration to make sure their produce ripens completely before harvesting. According to the authorities, farmers are also being urged to manage crop residue using environmentally friendly methods.
