Arvind Kejriwal Meets Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow; SP Chief Assures Support in Ordinance Row

Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, and Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, had a joint news conference in Lucknow today where Yadav pledged the support of his party for Kejriwal in opposition to the Center’s ordinance on control of services in the capital.

In order to garner support for the Center’s law to regulate the postings and transfers of the Indian Administrative Services personnel in Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal has been meeting with opposition leaders around the nation. On Wednesday, he met the SP’s director.

Yadav said during a news conference in Lucknow that his party would back the AAP in this matter.

At the press conference, Akhilesh Yadav said, “The ordinance is anti-democratic. I want CM Arvind Kejriwal to know that the Samajwadi Party is behind you and will help you. “If non-BJP parties come together then this ordinance can be defeated in Rajya Sabha and it will send a strong message that the Modi govt is not coming to power in 2024,” the Delhi CM said as he thanked Yadav for his support. I am grateful to SP leader Akhilesh Yadav for his assurance that his party would back us in the Rajya Sabha.

The AAP administration referred to the Centre’s ordinance, which was issued on May 19 and established a body to supervise the transfer and posting of Group-A officials in Delhi, as a deceit in light of the Supreme Court’s decision regarding control of services.

The ordinance was passed a week after the Supreme Court gave Delhi’s elected government jurisdiction over all services except for police, public safety, and land. In order to remove Group-A officials from the DANICS cadre and to conduct disciplinary actions against them, it proposes to establish a National Capital Civil Service Authority.

Before the top court’s ruling on May 11, all Delhi government personnel were subject to the lieutenant governor’s executive supervision when it came to transfers and postings.
