At the Khelo Games, J&K wins four gold medals while the Army leads with nine

On Saturday, the Army took center stage at the 4th Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG), winning nine gold, five silver, and twenty bronze medals. Karnataka came in second with eight goldss, two silver, and ten bronze.

Four medals were won by Jammu and Kashmir. Shahid Ahmad Chachi, a local youngster from Tangmarg, won gold in the men’s vertical category in the Kangdoori ski mountaineering competition, the first of its kind for UT.

Menak Gunjiyal from Uttrakhand, Gousia Gulzar from J&K, and Kamaya Kartikayan from Maharashtra took home gold, silver, and bronze in the same women’s competition.

In addition, Anchal Thakur of Himachal Pradesh won gold in the Alpine Skiing Slalom women’s competition, followed by Sobiya Nabi of J&K in second place and Diya Thakur of Himachal Pradesh in third.

At the Apline Skiing Slalom for Men, competitors from the Army emerged victorious with three medals: Baqir Hussain took home the gold, Mayank Panwar secured the silver, and Jekmat Rafstan secured the bronze. Additionally, Baqir emerges as the winner of gold medals in the slalom and giant slalom competitions.

In the Men’s Category Snowboard Parallel Slalom competition, Kamal Jeet from Himachal Pradesh, Vikar from J&K, and Kulvinder Sharma from the Army won Gold, Silver, and Bronze, respectively. Similar to Anchal Thakur and Baqir Hussain, Kulvinder Sharma won the parallel and snowboard slalom in Kangdoori, securing the second gold medal.

The medals were given to the podium finishers by six-time Olympian Shiva Keshavan and Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Nisith Pramanik.
