Battle for the inauguration: Kejriwal and the L-G of Delhi clash over the site of the GGSIPU

The opening of the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University campus in east Delhi has emerged as the most recent issue of contention between lieutenant governor VK Saxena and the AAP-led municipal administration. Both parties said that they will inaugurate the recently constructed campus.

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief executive, will dedicate the GGSIPU campus in east Delhi on June 8, according to an announcement made by Delhi’s minister of education Atishi on Tuesday.

She announced at a news conference that she was “delighted to announce” that the chief minister will officially open the GGSIPU East Campus in East Delhi on June 8. The L-G office responded with a statement expressing disbelief at her declaration.

At a school inauguration, Delhi CM Kejriwal names Manish Sisodia while fighting back tears.
The L-G office said that even though the education minister “fully well” knew that the Lt Governor would announce the chief minister’s inauguration, she yet did so. Kejriwal was informed that L-G Saxena was slated to launch the campus, according to the office memo.

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister, was aware that the L-G was supposed to open the facility. In reality, they were aware of their obligation to attend the event as distinguished guests and guests of honor, as requested by the L-G, and they had given their assent, according to the statement.

“Moreover, even on the day that Atishi made this claim in a press conference, i.e., June 6, 2023, earlier that day at the GGSIPU Convocation, where Atishi was present as a Guest of Honour, the VC of GGSIPU announced on stage that the East Campus of the University was scheduled to be inaugurated by the Lt. Governor on June 8, 2023,” the statement continued.

The L-G shouldn’t forget that technical education, higher education, and education are all transferable disciplines, Atishi said in response to the remark.

Saurabh Bhardwaj, a Delhi minister, questioned Saxena’s motivation for opening the university campus and suggested that he concentrate on opening structures within the jurisdiction of the Police, Land, and Public Order.

The Lieutenant Governor is in charge of the police, land, and public order. He should open the DDA sports facility, police headquarters, and police stations. Education, including higher education, is a governmental responsibility that belongs to the elected government. “The L-G wants to inaugurate it, but why?” Bhardwaj asked ANI.

He said that this campus’ building began before VK Saxena was chosen to serve as Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor.

“This campus’ building began while he (VK Saxena) was not the L-G. This project was initiated by Manish Sisodia, and it was advanced by our elected administration. The L-G’s claim that he was requested by authorities to open the university campus is odd at this point, Bhardwaj remarked.

“At this pace, the L-G may announce that Saurabh Bhardwaj’s office will be inaugurated tomorrow. L-G has maintained his command over all officers because he intends to continue doing so. The CM is the one who has the moral right to officially open the campus. Such ideas shouldn’t even cross the L-G’s head, he continued.
