Bengaluru Allows Older and Disabled Citizens to Vote at Home

There were 4,459 voters in Bengaluru who cast their ballots from home on Saturday, the first of five days that this option would be available. The voting procedure is intended only for elderly citizens who are 85 years of age or over and people with disabilities (PwD) in all Lok Sabha seats in Bangalore North, Central, and South that fall within the boundaries of the Bangalore Metro Police (BBMP) as well as the Bengaluru Urban region.

With the exception of Padmanabhanagar, officials made voter visits to encourage their participation in the election. This exceptional chance to vote will remain open until April 18.

Just 7,556 of the 1,13,108 senior residents in the city who are over 85 years old have registered to vote from home. Similarly, just 302 of the 30,693 people with disabilities who were recognized chose to cast their ballots from home. With this, 7,858 home voters are now registered overall.

The BBMP Central zone received 1,337 votes, while the BBMP South zone received 1,313 votes. This is the distribution of votes. According to DH, 824 votes were cast in the Bangalore Urban area, which includes Mahadevapura, Dasarahalli, and Anekal, compared to 985 votes in the BBMP North zone.

In addition, officials said that of the registered voters, 18 had died away, 16 had not shown up for the visit, and 2 had chosen not to cast a ballot. As a result, 56.74 percent of the total votes were cast on Saturday.

Locals said they were happy with how the vote went. Lalithamba B V, whose father Vishwanathaiah, who was 87 years old, cast his ballot at their HSR Layout house, commended the BBMP staff for their proactive efforts. She said that two days before the vote day, representatives came by, swiftly set up everything, and gave her father an explanation in a private room, thus finishing the process.

Nonetheless, a few locals advised authorities to take further safety measures. Although the officers treated her mother, who is ninety-three, with care throughout the voting procedure, an aged resident of an apartment complex in K Narayanapura brought attention to the need of masks for government workers.
