Case involving Muzzafarnagar School: NHRC Notifies the UP Government and State Police

The Muzaffarnagar incident, in which a student was allegedly slapped by his classmates on the advice of their teacher who also made derogatory remarks about his religion, resulted in the National Human Rights Commission sending a notice to the state police and the government of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.

The NHRC said that it had voluntarily taken note of a media report on the event.

The instructor was captured on camera making racial remarks and requesting that the class 2 Muslim pupil be spanked.

The school is situated in the Muzaffarnagar district’s Khubbapur village. According to reports, the boy’s family claims that he was physically assaulted for making a mistake during class while multiplying tables. On August 25, a video of the event went viral, sparking demands for the instructor and the school to be disciplined.

The panel declared that, if accurate, the information in the media report amounts to a breach of the victim’s human rights.

The Uttar Pradesh chief secretary and director general of police have both received notifications from the NHRC asking them to provide a thorough report on the situation within four weeks.

The NHRC said that the report should contain information concerning the teacher’s punishment, the status of the FIR filed, any restitution made to the affected family, and any actions taken or planned to be taken to stop such occurrences from happening in the future.

It said that as of August 28, the instructor, who also owns the school, had not been detained according to the media source.
