Chhattisgarh: In the Naxal-affected Dantewada, a former Janpad Panchayat member was fatally hacked

DANTEWADA: According to police on Saturday, an ex-Janpad Panchayat member was fatally attacked with sharp objects by unidentified attackers in a hamlet in Chhattisgarh’s Naxalite-affected Dantewada district. Despite the fact that no Maoist posters were discovered at the scene, police believe that Naxalites were responsible for the late Friday night murder.

They claimed that all potential explanations, including personal animosity, are being looked into.

The victim, known as Joga Podiyam, a former member of the local Janpad panchayat, was at home with his family when the event occurred in Potali village, which is within the jurisdiction of Aranpur police station, according to a police officer.

Eight to ten individuals posing as citizens broke into Podiyam’s home and hauled him outside. He said that when they assaulted him with sharp-edged weapons in front of his family, he was instantly killed. He further said that the attackers ran into the forest after performing the crime.

A group of security guards from the Chhattisgarh Armed Forces (CAF) camp, which is approximately 500 meters from the hamlet, hurried to the scene as soon as they heard about it, he claimed.

There were no Maoist leaflets to be discovered there. Nonetheless, he said, the murder is being investigated from every viewpoint, including personal animosity and Naxalite craftsmanship.

He said that a search and rescue effort is in progress in the region to locate the attackers. Locals claim that in 2018, Podiyam was threatened by Naxalites with severe repercussions and asked not to support development projects in the region. They alleged that Podiyam’s kid had been slain by Naxalites by burning him on fire ten years before.
