Claiming ‘executive instructions’ from the Center to withhold accounts, Elon Musk’s X publishes

The government allegedly sent “executive orders” to Elon Musk’s X (previously Twitter), directing the social media behemoth to take action on certain users and messages. The government has not yet reacted to the accusations made by the business.

The business said it will abide with the government’s ruling in a post published early on Thursday on X’s Global Government Affairs. However, it disapproved of the action, contending that the postings’ right to free speech should not be violated.

“The Indian government has issued executive orders requiring X to act on specific accounts and posts, subject to potential penalties including significant fines and imprisonment,” the message said.

“In compliance with the orders, we will withhold these accounts and posts in India alone; however, we disagree with these actions and maintain that freedom of expression should extend to these posts,” read the statement.

X said that there was still a pending petition against the government’s ruling.

“A writ appeal against the Indian government’s blocking orders is still ongoing, in line with our stance. In compliance with our standards, we have also notified the affected users of these steps “it said.

“We feel that making executive orders public is crucial for openness, but we are unable to publish them due to legal limits. The statement said, “This lack of openness may result in arbitrary decision-making and a lack of responsibility.
