CWC requests that the women’s reservation bill be passed at the special session of parliament

The Women’s Reservation Bill must be enacted at the forthcoming special session of Parliament, the Congress urged on Saturday.

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) said in a resolution approved at its first meeting after being reestablished that legislative debate and scrutiny had all but vanished and that expansive legislation is hastily passed without enough review and discussion.

“The Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners (Appointment etc) Bill introduced in Parliament will severely compromise the independence of the Election Commission to conduct free and fair elections,” the statement said.

The CWC noted that a sudden call for a special session of Parliament and claimed that Sonia Gandhi, the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party, had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlining nine urgent issues of public concern and importance that needed to be discussed during this special session.

The resolution said, “The CWC praises her for her endeavor as well as for the ongoing interest she is taking in the growth of the party organization.

The Women’s Reservation Bill has to be approved at the special session, according to the CWC.

The request from the top decision-making body of the Congress comes amid increased requests for the Women’s Reservation Bill to be passed and rumors that it would be discussed during the five-day special session of Parliament that begins on Monday.

Since the Upper House of Parliament never dissolves, the Bill that was enacted in Rajya Sabha under the Manmohan Singh-led administration around 11 years ago was still in effect.
