Delhi Chalo Farmers Continue Until Demands Are Fulfilled, Delhi Border Security Tightened | Key Points

Thousands of farmers have assembled for the ‘Dilli Chalo’ march at the Punjab-Haryana border, and farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher has announced that the protest will continue till their demands are met.

He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to deal with the problems that farmers face.
Farmers’ protests are still going on.

The farmers have stopped the ‘Dilli Chalo’ march till February 29. They are holding a number of activities at the boundaries of Shambhu and Khanauri. A candlelight march was held at the protest location on Saturday in remembrance of the farmer who had died a few days earlier during the agitation.

Concurrently, the authorities have started the process of partly reopening the Singhu and Tikri crossings between Delhi and Haryana, which were closed since the start of the demonstrations on February 13. Furthermore, internet access has been restored in seven Haryana districts: Jind, Hisar, Kaithal, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Sirsa, Fatehabad, and Jind.

Farmers Oppose: These are the Most Recent Events
The leader of the farmers, Sarwan Singh Pandher, said on Sunday that the Dilli Chalo march would continue until their demands were met by the federal government and that a decision on its continuance will be taken on December 29. There are many activities scheduled near the Punjab-Haryana border till then.
The farmer representative added that PM Modi is being encouraged to solve the problems that affect farmers.

To memorialize the farmer who lost his life during the present agitation, demonstrators held a candle march on Saturday night at Shambhu and Khanauri on Punjab’s border with Haryana. Shubhkaran, 21, lost his life in the fight on February 21 in Khanauri. Farmer leaders are demanding that the Punjab government mandate the filing of a formal complaint against those accountable for his death; as a result, his cremation has not yet taken place.

Farmers warned that the protest would continue even after the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections takes effect, but Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda emphasized the government’s willingness to dialogue and encouraged negotiations to find a solution.

Today at the protest location, seminars will be held to discuss concerns pertaining to farmers. On Monday, the World Trade Organization and the Center will set themselves on fire. There will be forums related to the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) around the nation on February 27 and 28, respectively. On February 28 there will be a joint gathering of the SKM and KMM forums. On February 29, farmer leaders will convene to choose the course of the Dilli Chalo march.

Thousands of farmers are currently stationed at Khanauri and Shambhu after the police broke up their march to Delhi to pressure the Centre for a number of demands, such as the reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, a legal guarantee of the minimum support price (MSP) for crops, the implementation of the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission, pensions for farmers and farm laborers, no increase in electricity tariff, the withdrawal of police cases, “justice” for the victims of the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri in 2021, and compensation to the families of farmers who lost their lives during an earlier agitation in 2020–21.
