Delhi Schools Reopen Today; Due to Foggy Conditions, the Times

Today, January 15, is the first day of classes again in Delhi. Due to the very cold weather in the capital, all government, government-aided and recognized private schools were closed for a few days before reopening today. The official announcement said that the instruction will take effect on Monday, January 15, 2024, for kids in all grade levels, including Nursery, KG, and Primary courses, as reported by the Economic Times.

However, Delhi’s school schedules have altered. The foggy circumstances in the capital have caused the Directorate of Education (DoE) to modify the school schedule. The official guideline states that schools cannot open for business before nine in the morning. Additionally, schools are not allowed to continue teaching beyond 5 p.m. until additional guidance on the matter is provided by the directorate.

Due to the frigid weather, the Directorate of Education had already decided to prolong the winter break in Delhi schools till January 12. On the microblogging platform “X,” Delhi Education Minister Atishi said that a decision had been taken to prolong the winter vacation for children in Nursery through Class 5 by five days, till January 12. “Schools in Delhi will remain closed for the next 5 days due to the prevailing cold weather conditions, for students from Nursery to Class 5,” Atishi stated in the post.

The winter vacation for students was scheduled to end on January 6 and courses to resume on January 8. However, the winter break was prolonged for all schools in the nation’s capital due to strong cold waves. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow warning due to thick fog, moderate rainfall, and a drop in temperature.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has extended the winter vacations for pupils up to Class 5 at all institutions to January 21 owing to extreme cold weather prevailing throughout the province. According to Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, normal sessions for pupils in grades 6 through 12 will resume on January 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
