Delhi Weather: Heavy fog affects many trains and flights as the cold wave continues to engulf the city

Delhi IMD Weather Today Update: The city awoke to yet another frigid morning on Friday, so there is still no reprieve from the bone-chilling cold. The India Metrological Department reports that today’s high is predicted to reach 19 degrees Celsius, while the lowest temperature stayed at 6 degrees Celsius. Friday is expected to see bright skies and thick fog, according to the meteorological service.

Dense fog predominated in several areas of Delhi-NCR under chilly weather conditions; around 5:30 AM, the Palam Observatory, which is close to the Indira Gandhi International Airport, recorded a visibility level of 50 meters. To stay warm, people sit around the campfire.

The visibility was poor, which had an impact on Delhi’s rail and aircraft operations. Fog caused at least 22 trains headed for Delhi to be delayed by one to six hours. Northern Railways reports that there is a 6.–6.7.30-hour delay on five trains: the Khajaurao–Kurukshetra Express; the Puri–New Delhi Purushottam Express; the Hyderabad–New Delhi Express; the Rani Kamlapati–New Delhi Bhopal Express; and the Kamakhya–Delhi Junction.

The following expressways are anticipated to come later than expected: Amritsar-Nanded, Rewa-Anand Vihar, Muzaffarpur-Anand Vihar, Vasco-Nizamuddin, Amritsar-Mumbai, Jammutawi-Ajmer Pooja, and Manikpur-Nizamuddin.

Visibility of 0 to 50 meters, 51 to 200 meters thick, 201 to 500 meters moderate, and 501 to 1,000 meters shallow is classified as extremely dense fog by IMD.

At nine in the morning, Delhi’s total Air Quality Index (AQI) was 347. An AQI of zero to fifty is excellent, 51 to one hundred acceptable, 101 to two hundred moderate, 201 to 300 poor, 301 to 400 extremely poor, and 401 to 500 severe.
