‘Deliberately Loosened’: Scindia Slams Congress as Veer Savarkar Airport Ceiling Collapse Sparks Controversy

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Monday that the ceiling of the recently built airport in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, was purposefully loosened for CCTV installation, despite criticism from the opposition over a video showing a section of the ceiling dangling.

In retaliation, Scindia advised the Opposition party to ask for an explanation the next time rather than acting hastily and making a big deal out of nothing.

“The building is not within the terminal. In addition, a section of the artificial ceiling had been purposefully loosened for CCTV purposes. Later, very strong gusts (about 100 km/hr) caused the panels to swing as shown in the video. After the repair was done, the artificial ceiling was restored. Next time, just seek an explanation rather than acting quickly and creating sensationalism out of thin air,” Scindia tweeted.

The Union Minister was replying to a tweet sent on Sunday by Jairam Ramesh, the general secretary of the Congress.

The Congressman made fun of the Prime Minister in a tweet by writing, “The Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) will inaugurate anything these days — even if it’s incomplete or subpar infrastructure (highways, airports, bridges, trains, etc.).” Ministers eager to bolster their Sensex with him were more than happy to comply. The expense is borne by taxpayers and residents. What a sad situation there in “New India.”

Social media was flooded with footage showing the artificial ceiling dangling in the air.

On July 18 at Port Blair, Prime Minister Modi officially opened the recently constructed Veer Savarkar International Airport.
