Despite health concerns, NC announces Mian Altaf would run for the LS election

Mian Altaf, a Gujjar politician, is still the National Conference’s candidate in the Rajouri-Anantnag seat for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, according to vice president Omar Abdullah, despite reports of the man’s health suddenly deteriorating. On May 7, there will be voting for the position.

If he has made the decision to step back, he will let us know first. We’ll check it out since you brought it to our attention,” he stated. Omar refused to make any public statements until he had firsthand confirmation from Mian Altaf. “He remains our candidate until I personally hear from him that he is unable to contest the polls due to his health,” Omar said.

According to earlier reports in the local media, senior politician and five-term lawmaker Mian Altaf, who represents the Kangan constituency in the Ganderbal district, has been experiencing health issues and may not be able to continue running for office in the forthcoming election. According to the reports, physicians had urged him to take a few weeks off from active campaigning in order to relax.

According to NC sources, they were taken aback by the reports about Mian Altaf’s poor condition. As one NC leader puts it, “It was shocking and surprising for us.”

Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is the party’s nominee for the same position. The BJP has not yet announced a candidate.

Following the nomination, Mian Altaf said that he would respect the party’s choice but had no interest in challenging the results.

Several attempts to get in touch with Mian Altaf were unsuccessful as his phone remained unreachable. Mian Mehar Ali, his son, addressed “rumours” on social media. Mian Mehar Ali uploaded a video of his father later that evening and said that he was ill, perhaps from jaundice. According to Mian Altaf in the video, he informed some of the individuals who had come to see him that he would not be able to run for office or participate in campaigns until his health improved. He said that after taking the medication and receiving the diagnosis of viral fever from the physicians, he was feeling better. He said that there were rumors he wouldn’t run for office. Since yesterday, I’ve been doing well, and relaxation has been recommended. “I’ll fight,” he said. He added that the vice-president of North Carolina had been to see how he was doing.

Farooq Abdullah, the president of the National Conference, and Omar Abdullah, the vice president, welcomed Choudhary Muhammad Akram, a former MLA from Surankote, into the party.

The NC leaders said that Akram was a seasoned politician with decades of experience in the public sector. “The party feels that he will bolster its endeavors to restore the rights that have been curtailed for people,” they said.
