DMK Leader Udhayanidhi On Supreme Court Notice Amid Sanatana Dharma Row: “Have Faith In Judiciary”

The DMK leader said on Saturday that he has confidence in the judicial system amid the continuing controversy over a comment made by Tamil Nadu Youth Welfare Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin about Sanatana Dharma. After receiving notification of his words from the Supreme Court, he made the declaration. The minister reportedly told reporters that he had just read about the highest court giving notice in publications and had not yet received it.

He also said that proper representations will be made to the highest court after getting the notice, adding that “we have faith in the judiciary.”

He received notification from the Supreme Court on Friday as a result of his comments advocating for the destruction of Sanatan Dharma.

A Raja, Thol Thirumavalavan, Thiru Su Venkatesan, the Tamil Nadu DGP, the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner, the Union Home Ministry, PK Sekar Babu, the Minister for Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowment Department, Peter Alphonse, the Chairman of the Tamil Nadu State Minorities Commission, and others were also given notice by a bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose and Bela M Trivedi.

The Supreme Court decided to hear the case after originally declining to hear the petitioner’s argument and sent him to the High Court.

The counsel for Chennai-based attorney B Jagannath, who filed the petition, was questioned by the court about the context of the words. He said, “They have called for the eradication of a faith, in an institution.”

The attorney said that if such a statement had been made by an individual, it would have been accepted, but the state is using its whole arsenal.

Circulars had been distributed, he informed the bench, inviting pupils to speak out against it.

“It is improper for a constitutional functionary to talk in this manner. Second, teachers shouldn’t make pupils speak out against a certain Dharma, the advisor stated.

Udhayanidhi Stalin, the head of the DMK, made certain comments that greatly stoked political dissent across the nation.

The Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, was urged to take notice of Stalin’s hate speech calling for the annihilation of “Sanatana Dharma” in a letter from 262 distinguished persons, including former High Court judges and officials, on September 5.
